Help Notre Dame

Many people are upset over Pastor Sheehan's unilateral decision to close Notre Dame. So I thought a place where we could all discuss our ideas to help save our school and Sister Pat and Sister Ellen would be a good idea. Plus I don't like how he deceiving people, he uses the pulpit and bulletin to say one thing and then is doing another. We need a pastor that will support us. We need a committee that is willing to go against Pastor Sheehan. If he can't handle a parish with a school...he should go someplace else...there are PLENTY of parishes without a school! Yes, saving a school is hard work...but it can be done.

Lets all get to-gether and have a meeting, What this man Mr Sheenan (I refuse to call him a Priest)is doing is WRONG. What he intends on doing with our school is shameful,
Irishman you seem to know alot more than any of us, so please lets get the parents and reporters and share this information! Siter Ellen and Sister Patricia are truly remarkable people,
Parents of Notre Dame lets fight for them and our wonderful children.

me too and the church cannot understand why people are LEAVING in droves from the church and questioning their religion.......first you bump tuition up then make us move to one location and next you change our leadership.........how can anyone believe a word that is spoken inside of this church or by their affiliated priests.......the Sisters have ALWAYS spoken the truth for the fifteen years I have been affiliated with this school....too many changes can contribute to STRESS don't they get ANYTHING . I have loved being a member of this school and will gravely miss it since I too can make decisions in what I will and will not support.

Father Sheehan met with the Notre Dame teachers today. In a letter,he passed out (and will be sending to all parents), he states "Sister Ellen McMahon, OP and Sister Patricia Tully, OP deserve our gratitude for the years of service they have given to the Notre Dame Community. Their positive contributions will be found in an ongoing tradition of excellence at Notre Dame Interparochial School." So if this is how he feels...why did he FIRE them? Or is he lying AGAIN? :)-

It's a shame to say this about someone, but, Father Sheenan is not very "fatherly" at all.

One would wonder why he is a priest at all. Not very welcoming to the church, which is one very big reason why attendance is down. When my family first moved into town and wanted to get involved, We introduced ourselves to him, outside, when church ended, instead of his saying "welcome to our community" and giving a warm pleasant feeling as one would expect, he simply said "are you registered"? That made us feel out in the cold. He's not a very nice man when it comes to being a nice man.

Nobody on the website mentioned, that all the other parents (catholic, but from another parish, non-catholic) should also be included. Even if their money does not go to Pastor Sheenan's church or any of the other two, they are valuable too. Somewhere I read that Notre Dame's Asian students make up at least 30% of all students. I am pretty sure, that some have also assisted and contributed to the Fundraisers.
Perhaps a separate Petition letter can be drafted that is sent on behalf of these Parents. (Since Notre Dame does not discriminate against students of different races and religions, and they also pay their tuition, why should the Catholic Church ignore their plea) Coming to think of it.... THIS would make a great Newspaper Headline!

Since the re-registration is coming up, I am afraid, that Notre Dame could loose a lot of students, especially the ones that are registered with other parishes, or from a different ethnic community! For this reason alone, ALL parents should be informed, that we intend to fight Pastor Sheenan's decision. One way to spite him, is making sure that the re-registration numbers of current students stay the same (I know...but we have to stay optimistic to keep going) and also help to get new registrations.

I have thought of 2 things that I can do:
1) I am going to give brochures to all daycare centers in the areas that are surrounding Ridgefield and Palisade Park. (My daughter's daycare center in Edgewater referred ME to Notre Dame 2 years ago)I can include my letter of reference with the brochure, but perhaps I can receive more from other parents, that can write about their experience of how Notre Dame has helped their kids learn and grow.

2) For this idea, I need the help of Mr. Irishman! Your Story is one of the best blogs that anyone has ever written! It was informative and has inspired every parent that received a copy. Would it be possible to draft a shorter version that sums up all your points? I will have my friend translate it into Korean, we will add a few notes on all actions, that are being taken and conclude with thanking the Korean community for their support and appreciation that they have for Notre Dame which we hope will continue in the future.

I would definitely appreciate any comments and more ideas, and you can write to me directly at:

Thank you, Irishman. I look forward hearing from you.

Also, I forgot to mention last week, that I will personally hand out the letter to each parent, as they drop off their kid(s) at school, starting from 7:45 - 8:30.

Let's all get a grip on
this situation.

Let's think...
What would Jesus do?

Shalom, my friends!

Yes,...what would Jesus do?
Would Jesus close a school because of money or would he help try and save it? Would Jesus dispose of two religious and dedicated workers or would he help them with their challenges and worries? Yes...what would Jesus do?

Why is everyone giving Fr. a bad name? This is nothing new. It is
about profit and loss. At least
your school is staying open. The sisters were evil and mean to everyone. They were not christianlike at all. They ran the school for their benefit without compassion to anyone. Let's give it a rest and look on to a better school.

I suppose it is easy to not put your name.
Who are you afraid of?
There are countless examples of their kindness on a day to day basis.
Look in a mirror. There you will see your answers.

Support 100% for Sister Patricia and Sister Ellen

Many of the so called "adults" on this site, are doing everything we teach our children not to do. Lets use our engery POSITIVELY!!! Lets MOVE FORWARD!!! Lets try to make the BEST SCHOOL we can with our without the sisters. Eventhought the sisters are gone, many of our children still REMAIN!!

The Sisters are the ones who MADE this school. It certainly wasn't Father. It certainly wasn't the parents (including myself)...just look at how many parents show up for the home school meetings or other activities. The Sisters created Notre Dame. If the Sisters aren't there...my children won't be there.

Someone claims the Sisters ran the school for their benefit? Please NAME the benefits they got? Here let me help you name some of the benefits...:

1.) Forced to run a school without proper fiances because Pastor Sheehan won't provide it. So they couldn't make the school what they dreamed of, but they do the best they can. They scrimp and save and beg to get what they need. Benefit: Stress

2.) Stuck dealing with a small number of parents with major attitudes because they think their child is an angel and doesn't do anything wrong. Benefit: Stress

3.) Money...yeah that's it, the Sisters ran the school for the stipend they get...wow. Benefit: Stipend

4.) Power: The Sisters liked the power? What power? Father Sheehan controls everything...so he has the power. The only "power" they had was to discipline the children...I don't know about you...but I send my child because I expect strict discipline. (I also know that when the teacher or principal call me and say my child did something...no matter how hard it is to believe...most likely my kid did it...parents that claim my "child would never do that" are blind. Why would teachers and principals waste their time if your child didn't do anything? Benefit: Stress

If I missed any of the wonderful benefits that the Sisters are getting from running Notre Dame "their way"...let me know, I'd be interested.
